Engine Remapping
Did You Know?
That from 2008 model year most vehicle manufacturers have introduced a new engine control unit for petrol and diesel cars, these are known as Bosch MED17 and EDC17 ECUs and are fitted to the latest models such as the BMW 320d and the Audi A4 2.0 TFSI. These vehicles have an enhanced version of ECU security, meaning that It is not currently possible to override this security lock by communicating with the ECU via the vehicle diagnostic port (OBD2 port as it is known). Therefore these late model vehicles Cannot currently be remapped in the standard way by flashing an aftermarket file through the OBD2 Port.
Operating closely with Bosch, Kartechnic are currently the only company in the area capable of offering both performance and economy remapping of these vehicles.

New EU legislation
From June 1st 2010 new laws mean that car manufacturers will no longer be able to refuse to supply independent vehicle workshops with technical information or spare parts.
According to the European Commission, repair and maintenance accounts for 40 per cent of the cost of owning a car. Joaquín Almunia, the Competition Commissioner, said the new antitrust regulation would provide consumers with tangible benefits. “[It will] bring down the cost of repairs and maintenance.
“Car manufacturers will no longer be able to make the warranty conditional on having the oil changed or other car services only in authorised garages,” the Commission said.

Aclaim for Kartechnic BMW Remap
During a visit to our workshop to discuss a BMW M3 GT restored by Kartechnic and featured in this month's issue of www.total-bmw-mag.co.uk
Editor Paul Wager took the opportunity to have Kartechnic remap the magazines project 523I BMW. He later e-mailed us this response.
"Just a quick note to let you know how the remap seems to have transformed the old girl! It's so much better to drive at speed but amazingly, the economy seems to have gone from a best-ever 30 mpg to as high as 34.5 mpg on the way back from Poole - and that's at an 85-90 mph cruise. Round town it seems to have gone from a dismal 22 to 29ish! So I'll definitely be writing something positive about it in the current issue's instalment of the project..."
